In this session, we will wade into the waters of culturally responsive teaching as defined by Zaretta Hammond in her book Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. We will learn the components of engagement and rigor for culturally and linguistically diverse students, reflect on our own awareness of culture and it’s impact on teaching and learning, and start the process of creating a community of learners and teachers focused on equity in CUSD. This session will provide an overview of a cohort approach to professional development in culturally responsive teaching in 2022-23.
