Foundational Music-making Activities in The Classroom (Grades TK-6; VAPA, General Education, Special Education, and Social Emotional/Mental Health)

Bring joy to the classroom!  Learn to teach general musical development and use the percussion instrument kits available to elementary schools in fall 2022. These music strategies will provide students with authentic opportunities to engage in the CASEL competencies and integrate common core standards such as mathematics, literature, and academic concepts. This session will include demonstrations, participation, and a chance to practice the teaching techniques presented. No prior experience with music is required.

Teachers will be provided with written lessons and will be able to order instructional posters with vocabulary terms. The music strategies presented will enhance learning, engagement, and mental wellness. The content of this session is aligned with culturally responsive teaching that strengthens students’ sense of identity, promotes equity and inclusivity, and engages and supports critical thinking.
