Natalie Taylor Barbiera has been in the field of education in Los Angeles County for over 20 years. She has served as an elementary teacher, principal, and district-level director focused on equity, instruction, and culture. In addition to serving students in her home district of Claremont Unified, Natalie has traveled to China to work alongside overseas departments of education. Since 2020, she has served on the Board of Directors for Claremont Canopy, a non-profit founded to support people displaced by forced migration who have settled in Claremont and surrounding areas. Natalie was awarded the State 'Valuing Diversity Award' from the Association of California School Administrators in 2023. Natalie completed her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from USC. Her research focused on the journey White educational leaders take when building racial identity and heightening racial consciousness. She facilitates equity conversations in her district and with other educational leaders across the state of California, with a focus on action and policy change in order to build equitable systems of education.
